(WHAS11) They say they want change and not the “change” of the current president, Barack Obama.
“I think he’s doing everything the same and he was supposed to be ‘the change’ candidate and I think Americans really wanted things to change. But our foreign policy hasn’t changed, the wars are expanding, our monetary policy doesn’t change. We continue to inflate and run up the debt and print money,” said Jenny Saville.
The crowd of 300 or so wants a change that they say only Republican primary candidate Rand Paul can bring.
The son of Texas Congressman Ron Paul has gone from underdog to front runner, and his supporters have gravitated to his conservative views and belief in limited government.
“He understands that these foreign entanglements that we’re in, Iraq, Afghanistan and now Haiti for that matter; the founders of our country warned us about getting involved in foreign entanglements. And we can’t keep writing blank checks for overseas wars,” said Carlos Lam.
“I talk to a lot of people. I think a lot of people support Rand Paul. I think more and more people are coming around to the idea that we have a problem with big government and there’s not much of a voice for limited government and how good that is for the people,” said Saville.
”People are suffering with a lack of jobs and high tax rates, and people want to do with their money what they please and that’s what he stands for,” Keevin Bybee.
His grassroots campaign efforts have even attracted a younger crowd some at the rally were in their 20s. His supporters said they’re attracted to his emphasis on “freedom.”
“Freedom is popular. Liberty brings people together. If you believe in and support liberty it really unites people. I think there are a lot of different people that support Rand,” said Saville.
Rand followers say his message of change is one they can really believe in.
