LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville metro narcotics detective pleaded not guilty to a string of charges after he was indicted in connection with a shooting last year that happened while he was off duty.
Det. Chauncey Carthan appeared before a judge Tuesday on charges of DUI, wanton endangerment and official misconduct.
Carthan is accused shooting Ishmael Gough near the intersection of 24th and Chestnut last September. Police said Carthan was followed Gough for several blocks before both men pulled to the side of the road and got out of their cars.
Gough said Carthan, who was in plain clothes and an unmarked car, already had his gun drawn. Police said Carthan identified himself as an officer, but Gough did not comply and that’s when Carthan shot Gough.
Carthan is still employed by Louisville Metro Police and is doing administrative work currently.
