LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Members of the Christ Chapel, a ministry on the back side of Churchill Downs, dedicated a newly constructed children’s wing Monday evening.
The wing, which opened in 2006, was erected to accommodate more than two dozen children attending worship service there every week.
“A year ago we were asked what is it that you need and we said we needed a place for our kids at the time they were meeting in the parking lot outside in the school bus which is through all kinds of weather cold rain whatever so we said we wanted a children's wing,” Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy Pam Sears said.
The expansion is 1100 square-feet and is estimated to have cost $165,000.
Officials say it was made possible mostly through community donors and ongoing support of Churchill Down.
