MOSCOW, Russia (WHAS11) – A news anchor in Russia broke through the iron curtain Wednesday after quitting her job live on-air because of disagreeing with the network’s backing of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s military intervention in Ukraine’s Crimea region.

“And that is why personally I cannot be funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the actions of Putin. I’m proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth, and that is why after this newscast, I’m resigning,” Liz Wahl said.

Wahl describes herself as a Filipina-Hungarian-American and says she faces several ethical and moral challenges as a reporter for the network.

Wahl grew up in the United States.

She worked for Russia Today, a Russian funded network.
