(WHAS11) - A new test reveals a woman's constant companion, her purse, could have some negative health consequences.
The Center for Environmental Health says it found lead in the sides of 43 of 300 purses tested in a lab. Lead is linked to heart and brain problems after long term exposure to large doses.
The five purses that contained the most lead were made by Tory Burch, Guess, House of Harlow, Nine West and Charlotte Russe. Some of the companies have since pulled the purses from shelves.
The study found brightly colored purses made of plastic or vinyl are the most likely to contain lead.
