LOUISVILLE, Ky (WHAS11) -- A driver is dead after Metro Police said he lost control of his motor scooter and struck his head on Rangeland Road after a car turned into his path Tuesday afternoon.
"The driver was taking a left from Dale Ray (Drive) on to Rangeland and actually turned into the path of the driver of the moped," Alicia Smiley, LMPD spokeswoman, said.
The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Damon McClain.
A neighbor who requested to remain anonymous told WHAS11 McClain had just passed his driveway when the scooter began to "shimmer."
The witness said McClain was thrown off and suffered a "terrible head injury." The westbound car might have run over the victim's legs or feet, the neighbor added.
"I'm not sure whether or not the two made contact," Smiley said. "We do know the moped attempted to avoid contact. The driver ended up laying the bike down and unfortunately he went down with the bike and was pronounced deceased here at the scene."
Smiley said the victim was not wearing a helmet.
"There is nothing pointing to speed, nothing pointing to alcohol or any kind of impaired or erratic driving," Smiley said.
