LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Shots fired in front of a Kroger store at 3rd Street and New Cut Road Friday morning has left a worker recovering from a gunshot wound.

Kroger worker, Steve Higdon, is recovering at home, according to a family member after he was shot in the upper shoulder during a confrontation with an alleged shoplifter.

Workers said the incident happened around 1 a.m. when Higdon approached a person suspected of stealing a steak and some beer.

WHAS 11 News asked customers: "Did you have any problems going into the store at all?"

Clarence Davis, said: "I've had no problems. I've been coming here for years. I actually know a lot of people in there."

"It kind of scared me coming in this morning. With them still being on the run you don't know if they're going to come back or not," Ginny Jarboe said.

Meanwhile, customers said they hope Higdon recovers, but they want answers.

"That's scary. I do hope they catch the person who did it. Just hope and pray they'll be alright,"
Kroger customer Ramona Jackson said.

Police said three people were involved. LMPD will release pictures from surveillance video this afternoon, but they did release descriptions of the suspects:
