LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Arrest documents obtained Monday shed new light into Friday's police chase that ended on Interstate 64 in eastern Jefferson County.

Police identified the driver of the semi as 45-year-old Erik Atwell. Atwell is from Louisville.

Metro Dispatch said an employee saw a stolen vehicle from his work driving down the road, began following it and called the police.  LMPD officers began following the suspect and Jeffersontown Police picked up the chase when it crossed into their jurisdiction.

The semi cab was reportedly stolen from a farm near Oxmoor Mall Thursday night.

According to the arrest report, Atwell told police he knew stealing the truck was illegal and that the police would be called.  Atwell reportedly told police he missed driving trucks and had been looking at that truck for a "couple of years" and "decided he would take it for a test drive."

Police said during the chase, which lasted about an hour and went through Jefferson and Shelby counties, Atwell tried to hit officers because he "was angry."

Atwell pulled over to the right shoulder of I-64 and ran from the truck.  Several police officers tackled and apprehended him after a very brief foot pursuit.
