LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Two people have been arrested after leading police on a chase and then crashing their SUV in the Newburg neighborhood.

Kentucky state police say they tried to pull over 34-year-old Byron Harper for not wearing his seat belt on I-65. He led police in a chase but collided with a second SUV at Poplar Level Road and Indian Trial. After then trying to flee on foot, he was apprehended quickly by police.

A female passenger, 39-year-old Felicia Reyes, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was then arrested for trying to assault an EMS worker.

The three passengers in the second SUV were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Harper was arrested on various charges, including possession of drugs, and was taken to the hospital. Police say he is also a wanted fugitive for parole violations.
