LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Four-year-old Kamarion Posey is still in a hospital bed at Kosair Children's Hospital fighting for his life. A spokesperson for the hospital says he is still in critical condition. Police say due to the severity of his injuries, the homicide unit is working his case.
According to police, Posey's mother, Brittany Thompson was on house arrest when Kamarion shot himself in the face; however, no one answered the door Monday afternoon.
Police will not say a gun was in the home of an infant, 2 year-old, and 4 year-old who have a mother on home incarceration. LMPD is not releasing details related to the gun's ownership either.
While it is unclear what Thompson is on house arrest for, last March she was arrested for assault, theft by unlawful taking, and tampering with physical evidence. Court documents say she stabbed a man multiple times during a fight over stolen money. The man was in a confrontation with another person when, according to court papers, Thompson stabbed him in the back. The victim survived. Police say Thompson admitted she stabbed the man and threw the knife out the window.
Andre Mulligan is a family friend. He says Thompson has turned over a new leaf. "She had it bad," he says "she's starting to get her life together. She's joined church, going to school. She's doing positive for herself but still has a situation she's trying to fix."
Court papers document Thompson's latest arrest in February of 2014. Thompson was arrested for theft again. This time police said she stole nearly $700 worth of clothes from Dillards in Jefferson Mall.
Police are not saying if Thompson will be charged with a crime after her child Kamarion Posey shot himself.
