LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A group of protesters were back to the Sherman Minton Bridge Friday. Unlike their trip Thursday, they stayed off the bridge.

The African American Think Tank, led by Rev. Gerome Sutton, stalled work briefly Thursday when they walked right into an active construction zone. The group said more people should have been hired from West Louisville neighborhoods to work on the multi-million dollar bridge project that stretches into their community.

The Indiana Department of Transportation said they followed the same process for hiring as they do with all federally funded projects and have made sure to hire skilled minority and female workers.

Sutton said he doesn't care about federal standards and he thinks the company should have thought to check for available workers in the neighborhood right around the bridge. Now, Sutton wants to know exactly how many minorities are actually working on the project.

"We are giving them till Monday. If they don't have the information in our hands by Monday, they're going to see something that this city never has seen before," Sutton said.
