COLUMBUS, Ind. (WHAS11/NEWS RELEASE) -- Columbus Police Department officers have found the body of a woman they believe is a Columbus resident who was reported missing one week ago. The woman's body was found on Friday inside a vehicle belonging to the missing resident that was located in a brush line just west of Marr Road and south of Rocky Ford Road in Columbus.
Preliminary information indicates that the woman inside the vehicle is Vonda D. Fivecoat, 57, who was last seen at 7 p.m. December 20 at her home near the intersection of Beech and Tulip Drives in Columbus.
Columbus Police Department detectives have been investigating information they have received on the woman's possible whereabouts since she disappeared.
Fivecoat's white sport-utility vehicle was found in the brush line near Marr and Rocky Ford roads at about 1:20 p.m. Friday, December 28, after a resident in the area reported seeing the vehicle.
Investigators believe the vehicle left Marr Road, traveled across a field and stopped in the brush line sometime before Wednesday's heavy snow storm. Branches weighed down by snow covered the vehicle, making it difficult to see.
The woman's identity and cause of death have not been confirmed. Police detectives are processing the scene and conducting a death investigation. Once they finish processing the scene, the woman's body will be turned over to the Bartholomew County Coroner's Office. The Columbus Fire Department assisted at the scene.
