LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- On Saturday, police arrested two Louisville men believed to be responsible for 23 armed robberies in Kentuckiana.
22 year-old Troy Gaines Jr. and 33 year-old Shawndrell Robinson were arrested early Saturday morning after the pair attempted to rob the Speedway on the 8300 block of Preston Highway.
The arrests come as a relief for Sidiahmed Mohomed. Mohomed was robbed at gunpoint while he was working at Berry Market on Berry Boulevard on December 15.
"He opened the door and he put the gun on me and told me to give him all the money," Mohomed recalls.
Police say the pair also robbed two more businesses the same day they robbed Mohomed, and it all happened in less than one hour.
According to police, the two robbed all the businesses since late November. Their last target was the Speedway where they were arrested.
Over the last week nearly 50 LMPD officers were involved in a detail to catch these crooks and put an end to their terror.
"Those people go to work every day and work hard and for someone to come in and victimize them and put a gun in their face is obviously terrifying," LMPD Sgt. Josh Carr said.
Police canvassed areas the pair had targeted in the past.
Police say this crime spree was fueled by drugs and partying.
"it appears their motive was life in the fast lane, substance abuse, strip clubs, and just deciding not to go to work every day," LMPD Sgt. Eric Black said.
The two men are expected to face more charges. They are suspected in armed robberies in Radcliff, Jeffersonville, and Clarksville.
