JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A woman accused of burning her 3-year-old daughter faced a judge Monday morning and was arraigned on a battery charge.

Twenty-two-year-old Iman Joyner was arrested after police said staff members at her daughter's preschool noticed burns on the child's cheek and inner thigh.

Joyner, police said, told investigators the girl touched her face with a hot spoon. However, officers said they did not buy the story because the toddler did not sustain any burns on her hands.

Police said Joyner finally admitted to burning the girl because she wanted to "see what she would do."

Joyner is charged with neglect of a dependent and battery to a child.
