LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A man was sent to University of Louisville Hospital after he fell through a skylight in downtown Louisville Wednesday morning, April 2.

Louisville Metro Police said the man who was injured was attempting to burglarize the building at 300 West Main Street. He attempted to enter through the skylight on the roof of the 6th floor, which shares the same building as the Bluegrass Brewing Company.

The suspect is described as a black male in his thirties who fell to the floor.

Nobody was inside at the time of the break-in.

The owner of the building tells WHAS11 News that it is about a 20 foot drop from the roof to the floor. He said the alarm sounded after the suspect made entry.

Police say it was the suspect who called 911 after injuring his leg because of the fall.

“[MetroSafe] initially got a call from an individual that advised that he was with a friend who fell through the skylight and was not sure of his location,” Carey Klain with Metro Police said. “Officers in the area were able to determine it was the building at 300 West Main and were able to locate the individual who fell through the skylight.”

Police believe the suspect acted alone. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police expect to file charges against the suspect after he is released from the hospital. His name will be released at that time.
