(WHAS11) Police are investigating a fatal shooting in west Louisville.
It happened near the intersection of 19th Street and Stone Alley just after 5:00 p.m on Saturday
The victim was reportedly shot 8 times as he stood near his car. He was rushed to University of Louisville Hospital, where he later died.
Witnesses said the 22-year-old victim was talking to an acquaintance, when an unknown suspect or suspects fired multiple shots then fled.
The victim was found lying in the street in front of his vehicle. According to a family member, he had received several threats in recent days.
Homicide investigators spent much of the night on the scene collecting evidence and talking to potential witnesses.
WHAS11 News spotted at least 30 evidence markers at the scene; many of them were used to mark empty shell casings found in the street.
It is not known what caliber gun was used, but neighbors said they heard several shots fired in rapid succession. An entire city block was closed so that all of the evidence could be collected.
“There's several shots that were fired and it does cover the block there,” said LMPD Spokesperson Dwight Mitchell. “Obviously, evidence is along that route. It's not that unusual, but in this case, it is a large scene.”
So far, there has not been an arrest in the case.
The murder marked the 67th homicide in Louisville this year.
The last one happened last week, just three blocks from tonight's fatal shooting scene.
