LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The sweet smell of barbecue and burgoo filled the air at Louisville’s Pitt Academy during their 29th annual Bar-B-Q festival.
The festival included award-winning food, blues music and games for children.
Cooks from St. Pius X Catholic Church perfected their pork, lamb and chicken all day Saturday.
“A lot of it is the beginning preparation, make sure you have a good cut of meat, make sure you have good dry rub, make sure you have the fire, the wood is put in there good because that's the thing that's gonna do this,” St. Pius X team member David Fleischmann said.
The festival at Pitt Academy served an average of 4,000 meals.
Proceeds from the festival will go to the school which serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade with special needs.
