LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Local pilots took to the skies Saturday hoping to get the chance to fly in this year's Thunder Over Louisville.

Pilots practiced in vintage planes which will be used in the upcoming air show.

In order to become a pilot for thunder you need 200 hours of formation-type flight time  and approval from an official called a "signatory."

This year's Thunder Over Louisville is April 12.
