LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A woman’s hairstyle helped an Eastern Kentucky student win bragging rights Saturday in Louisville.

Paul Keaton of Pikeville was the last speller standing at this year’s Kentucky Derby Festival spelling bee. He correctly spelled "chignon."

65 students represented 62 counties in Kentucky and southern Indiana took part in the event.

With his win, Paul gets the John and Joan Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund which is a $10,000 U.S. savings bond.

He also gets to ride in the winner’s float at the Republic Bank Pegasus Parade on May 1.
