(WHAS11)-- The last day to change political party affiliation and to be eligible to vote in that political party affiliation upcoming 2014 Primary Election is December 31, 2013. Kentucky law requires voters to turn in political party change by December 31 of the previous year.

The Jefferson County Clerk’s Officer and Motor Vehicle branches will be closed on Tuesday, December 31st for scheduled (AVIS) Automobile Vehicle Information System Outages. The Election Center located at 810 Barret Avenue; Room 103 will be open on December 31st for the conveniences of Jefferson County residents from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Any voter registration cards that are mailed must be postmarked by December 31, 2013 to be accepted.

The law does not stop anyone from changing their party from January 1 to the date of the Primary Election. There is just a limitation that if they do, they are not allowed a nonpartisan ballot. They can change their part at any time during the year if they so choose.
