PAOLI, Ind. – The snow has arrived at Paoli Peaks. So that means the slopes are open and the ski lifts are running for the ski season. It is a much better start than last season.

“After last season, we are real happy to get this up and going,” David Kastan with Paoli Peaks said.

The mild winter last year forced Paoli Peaks to open after the New Year. This year, the conditions are a bit more favorable for some of the snow enthusiasts.

“It is pretty good,” 12-year-old skier Max Kastan said. “This year is better than last year. The conditions are a lot better. [It is] not hot; last year I wore a t-shirt.”

Prior to Thursday, there was no snow on the slopes of Paoli Peaks. But after the temperatures dropped, the park was able to make about a 12-inch base of snow to open 50% of their trails.

“Luckily, Winter Storm Sraco came through and brought us a little bit of natural snow and some colder temperatures,” David Kastan said. “Now, looking into next week, Winter Storm Euclid is looking to be the big one.”
