LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Christopher Helm, 22, is in jail accused of a brutal crime. Police said he walked into Stephen Brown’s home on Nov. 21 in what appeared to be an attempt to rob him and his roommate.
“I mean he took me totally off guard. He just waltzed in the back door and right into my dining room,” Brown said.
Brown knew Helm because he said he and his roommate offered Helm food a week before. Helm told them he was homeless and had been living under an overpass next to their home.
“We gave him a couple bologna sandwiches, some chips and a coke,” Brown said.
According to reports, Helm came back to the home just days later. When he discovered Brown was there he beat him with a cast iron skillet so severely he need stitches and staples to close his wounds.
“I thought I was going to die,” Brown said.
Police said Brown eventually fell to the floor and played dead. Helm allegedly got away with their flat screen television.
Police arrested Helm on a warrant on Wednesday. He’s behind bars facing several robbery charges for other incidents as well. His bond is set at $55,000.
