OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. (WHAS11) – Oldham County officials have given a new jail proposal to the state that could possibly lead to a new facility in 2014.

Stricter requirements went into effect in 2011 which call for county officials to get state approval before construction of a new jail.

Officials will also have to prove the facility is necessary which Oldham officials say they don’t anticipate any problems.

The Department of Corrections says Oldham County was the first to make a request under the new standards so their application will likely be the first one considered.
