SYLMAR, Calif. (WHAS11) -- There's even more tragedy in California after a three-year-old boy was found dead in his family's car.

Investigators said they don't believe the child was left in the car, but climbed into the unlocked vehicle while his dad slept and was unable to get out.

When his father woke up, he looked for the boy and found him unresponsive.

The boy was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials did not say how long the boy was in the car.

"At the very least, this is a very tragic accident, and it highlights the
importance again of not taking for granted where your kids are and what they
might be doing," Lt. Paul Vernon said.

Investigators said the case is being treated as an undetermined death.

No arrests have been made.
