LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville Metro Police officers are embracing the stereotype about cops and doughnuts to raise money for Special Olympics.

Officers are standing on top of the Bardstown Road Krispy Kreme location until midnight asking for donations for Special Olympics here in Kentucky.

“High five, the hug, they are our motivator. The awareness is great but to see them, to see them run, to see them jump, to see them bowl, things they couldn’t do how many years ago, they’re our heroes. We’re not theirs, they’re our heroes,” Officer Felipe Hernandez said.

Officers in Lexington are also doing the same thing at Krispy Kreme locations in their area.

Police say if you want to make contributions to the cause, you can go to soky.org.
