New pipeline project to bring better water pressure to east end residents

Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The Louisville Water Company broke ground on a new pipeline project worth nearly $21 million.
$4 million of that money is from stimulus funding.
 

Many east end residents have been anxiously awaiting the start of this project after dealing with low water pressure in their homes.
 

The new pipeline project starts at English Station Way, stretching five miles along I-64 from the Gene Snyder to the Jefferson and Shelby County Line.
 

Over the next two years, building the 36-inch pipeline will create 164 jobs and residents will also be happier.
 

"Enhanced water pressure and enhanced safety for the fire department needs to occur. With the size of these pipes it gives us the opportunity to assist Shelby County in the future as development occurs," says Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson.

The water main will be finished by fall of next year, while a pump and storage tank will be complete by 2011.
