NEW YORK (WHAS11) – A desperate search is underway in New York for a missing teen with autism.
14-year-old Avonte Oquendo was last seen more than two weeks ago on surveillance video running out of his school.
Police have been playing a recording of his mother calling for him into the streets in hopes of him hearing it.
The teen’s parents believe he’s still alive.
They say waiting for news on their son has been agony.
“It feels like eternity every day, you know, waiting to hear news if they found him or not so it’s just – just terrible. It feels like a nightmare I can’t wake up from,” Oquendo’s mother Vanessa Fontaine said.
There is a $77,000 reward offered for the teen’s safe return.
