LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The new Commonwealth’s Attorney for Jefferson County was officially sworn into office Wednesday morning and says there will be no layoffs in his office.
The city’s top lawyer, Thomas Wine replaces retiring Commonwealth’s Attorney Dave Stengal.
Wine says his office is facing a $180,000 budget shortfall and says his prosecutors will earn less.
“That’s why we are doing what we are doing. Just not hiring so we don’t have a lay off later and I’ve talked to division chiefs and they’ve all been agreeable. We’ll work harder with less,” Wine said.
Wine says his office will also have a violent crimes division.
Four prosecutors will specialize in that area and really target repeat offenders.
