NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS11) – The city of New Albany is celebrating the grand opening of a new firehouse.
Station 4 went into service at 6 p.m. Monday evening on West Daisy Lane.
Mayor Jeff Gahan says the department is a state of the art building. It was built as a result of the Kroger expansion on State Street.
The firehouse has modern features including a retractable exhaust system, dormitory style housing and a large kitchen area. The firehouse sits on more than 10 acres.
The mayor says the new department shows the community that it is important.
“I think this shows our willingness to invest in the health and safety of the neighborhood as well as the safety of the entire city and it is very much a part of our quality of life effort,” Mayor Gahan said.
The mayor said the location was chosen because of safety reasons.
