NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- The city of New Albany is taking a proactive approach to getting rid of those summer time pests . . . mosquitoes.

Monday night at dusk, New Albany will begin fogging in an effort to get rid of any mosquitoes carrying the dangerous West Nile Virus.

City officials said they're being more aggressive with mosquito control this year.

Over the next several weeks, crews will be fogging areas north to I-265, east to Silver Creek and west to I-64.

Louisville Metro Government is also fogging for mosquitoes this time of year.

Some of the best protections from the experts:

  • Any repellent with deet is a good way to go
  • Throw away any garbage in your yard
  • No standing water
