NORMAN, Okla. (WHAS11) -- The National Weather Service Radar in Norman, Oklahoma was tracking more than storms on Monday night.

You may notice the green shading in the middle of the radar. That's not rain. It's actually a colony of bats.

The National Weather Service said it 's not uncommon in the summer and that the bats are usually visible when they head out for their nightly feeding.

Meteorologists said the radar detects the bats as "bags of water," and as they spread out, the image on the radar gets bigger and bigger.
