PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) -- Construction on Paducah's expanded Murray State University campus should begin in the next couple of weeks.
The Paducah Sun reports the $8 million construction contract recently was awarded to the local firm A&K Construction.
A&K owner Kenny Hunt told the paper that he expects the 43,000 square-foot campus to be complete by December 2013.
Paducah, McCracken County, Paducah Economic Development and MSU have formed a partnership to secure up to $10 million in bonds to finance the project over 20 years.
Officials say the project is a significant accomplishment for Paducah and McCracken County. This will be the area's first institution of this caliber that will offer a four-year degree option.
The new building will replace the current MSU campus in Paducah, the Crisp Center.
