LOUISVILLE, Ky, (WHAS11) -- A Louisville mother is fighting to get out of jail after police said she was played a role in the shooting of a man earlier this year.
Kendra Wilson was visibly upset in court Friday during a hearing to reduce her bond.
It quickly turned into a drama as the judge said: "I don't want this to turn into a mini-trial."
"She has no felony record. Her son is dead. I don't want to throw that out there but it's the truth. She has received no grief counseling. She is a victim," Wilson’s attorney Greg Butrum said.
Wilson broke down in tears, locked up until her next hearing in January 2013. Her bond was reduced from half a million dollars to $250,000.
"The question is about the defendant's charge. What her criminal conduct is in the past and the likelihood of her returning to court. So I would object to any inquiry or fishing expedition into any co-defendant's statements," prosecutor Erin White said.
Wilson is charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of James Mallory. She is also charged with robbery, assault and intimidating a participant in the legal process. But her lawyer said she didn't try to kill him, and requested Mallory's medical records to prove he was not shot in the knee.
Butrum said: "My client is not guilty, demonstratively not guilty of three of the four felonies she's charged with."
Prosecution went after her criminal history to prove she doesn't deserve to be on house arrest.
White said: "These are not her only 16 cases bear in mind. These are 16 different misdemeanor felony downstairs and traffic cases and bench warrants for her failure to appear."
The judge addressed Wilson.
"I don't think anyone in here is not completely sympathetic to your loss. That being said, I have several factors to look at. The flight risk was one. Frankly, there's an indication that you are," Judge Judith McDonald-Burkman said.
Two co-defendants already pleaded guilty. Wilson is due back in court in January to talk about a possible change in venue. Her court date is set for June of next year.
Editor's note: James Mallory is charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Wilson's son, 15-year-old Gregory Holt. Police said the murder was revenge for Wilson's involvement in the shooting of Mallory.
