(WHAS11) – An outraged Montana community is demanding a judge lose his job after he handed down a lesser sentence for an accused rapist whose victim later committed suicide.
High school teacher Stacey Rambold received a 15-year sentence for attacking his 14-year-old student, Cherice Moralez, but earlier this week a judge declared that Rambold would only have to serve 30 days.
500 women showed up to the steps of a Montana courthouse demanding a harsher sentence and the ouster of the judge.
The young victim’s mother says any other sentence would have been better than the one Rambold actually received.
In the sentencing hearing, Judge G. Todd Baugh said they young rape victim was in much control as her rapist and seem older than her chronological age.
He later apologized saying his words were demeaning to all women.
