(WHAS11) – Convicted child rapist Stacey Dean Rambold is being released from jail Thursday afternoon after just serving a 30-day sentence in Montana.
The judge who initially handed down the controversial sentence is under fire. He even tried to reverse Rambold’s light punishment but that’s illegal under state law.
Rambold, a teacher, pleaded guilty to the attempted rape of one of his 14-year-old students who later committed suicide.
“She was beautiful but hopefully he’ll get justice, I hope,” the student’s mother Auliea Hanlon said.
Prosecutors have appealed Rambold sentence to the state supreme court hoping to send him back to prison.
