FRENCH LICK, Ind. (WHAS11) – A small plane that disappeared after taking off from southern Indiana has been found in Tennessee.
Investigators say the single-engine World War II era plane was reported missing Sunday evening after it took off from French Lick when it didn’t arrive as planned in Canon, Georgia.
The wreckage was found Monday in the Cherokee National Forest in eastern Tennessee.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, was killed.
Their identity has not yet been released.
Investigators say the plane was flying on visual flight rules and not receiving any service from air traffic control.
The cause of the crash is now under investigation.
