Military veteran arrested after 19-hour standoff with police

KENTON COUNTY, Ky. (WHAS11) – A standoff involving a military veteran in northern Kentucky has ended after 19 hours.

Police say the standoff started around 5 p.m. Saturday when Michael Vaughn set his home on fire and opened fire on officers.

Vaughn released his three children around 9 a.m. and was taken into custody just about 1 p.m.

The children were not hurt.

Police described Vaughn as a decorated veteran who may be suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

It’s not known what charges Vaughn will face.
