LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville woman is charged with murder in the stabbing death of an elderly man inside his Lake Dreamland home Wednesday night, May 28.

Police arrested the sole suspect, 35-year-old Kirstie Y. Smith.

The stabbing took place inside the victim's home, in the 4300 block of Oboe Dr. Police arrived on scene around 10:30 p.m. where they found the man, 75-year-old Robert Taylor, dead on arrival.

Police say this stemmed from a domestic violence situation. They say Smith and the Taylor were involved in a physical altercation. At one point, Smith grabbed a large knife and stabbed him multiple times.

Neighbors who knew Taylor said he was a friend to many in the neighborhood, but it was no secret, he had relationship troubles with Smith, who stayed with him often.

"I can't tell you how many runs we've been on. They were in a relationship on and off the last four years. And there's been, at that location, several reported incidents," Lt. Todd Kessinger, with the LMPD homicide unit, said.

One neighbor said, when he heard the news, he wasn’t surprised to hear Smith was behind it.

Taylor was a retired Louisville Firefighter.
