LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a Sunday evening fire which left an apartment complex in Fern Creek heavily damaged.
Firefighters were called to the Overbrook Apartment Homes in the 8900 block of Fairground Road just before 7 p.m.
Several fire departments including Jeffersontown were called to assist with the blaze. It took firefighters more than 30 minutes to get the flames under control.
Fern Creek Fire Department says the flames stayed inside the roof and the majority of the damage to the apartments inside came from the sprinkler system and roof caving in on the lower level.
Officials with the Red Cross say six families were displaced and will be put in temporary housing.
Two firefighters were sent to the hospital. One had a knee injury and the other was treated for heat exhaustion.
It’s not known when anyone will be allowed inside to assess the damage.
