LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- Police reopened I-71 North after a wreck occurred at the 2 mile marker just after 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes near Zorn Avenue. Police shut down the interstate while they worked the accident.
Police said a car broke down and was partially off the road when it was struck from behind by a second vehicle, then that vehicle was rear-ended.
A 13-year-old boy was standing on the side of the road and was hit. He got pinned between the first car and the guardrail.
Paramedics took the boy to the hospital with serious injuries. Two of the drivers were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are looking into whether alcohol played a factor into the crash.
