LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- In a surprise move, the attorney for Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin announced she would be pleading the 5th. On the advice of her attorney Shanklin walked out of her ethics hearing while the hearing officer was talking to her.
The hearing officer called her back, but she walked out. According to the hearing officer there is no rule against that. The prosecutor stood next to her empty chair and told the commission the questions he would have asked.
Shanklin is accused of multiple violations of the metro ethics code including allegedly spending tax payer money on groups she was in charge of and paying her grandson as a legislative aide while he was in jail.
WHAS11's Karma Dickerson is covering the hearing and will have much more on what happened coming up during the evening newscasts.
