LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Christmas 2013 is officially in the history books and now many in the area are seeking ways to get further use out of their trees.

Metro Solid Waste Management is looking to turning old trees into garden mulch.

Two out of the three sites will recycle your tree for you but you must bring your own container to store the mulch.

They are also offering curbside pick up for trees for those who live in the Urban Services district.

Trees and greenery can be set out on your regular collection day in your neighborhood.

The dates for the Christmas tree drop off begin Thursday, December 26 through December 29 and January 2 through the 4th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

LOCATIONS

East District Recycling Center, 595 N. Hubbards Lane

Southwest Government Center, 7219 Dixie Highway

Waste Reduction Center - 636 Meriwether Avenue (Tree drop-off only. Mulch is not available at this location.)
