(WHAS11) -- Mitch McConnell’s wife is speaking out for the first time since he released a new campaign ad featuring her.
Former U.S. labor secretary Elaine Chao appeared on "Fox and Friends" Friday morning where she addresses the so-called racist attacks from a liberal group on Twitter.
Last month the Super Pac progress Kentucky tweeted about Chao, saying "this woman has the ear of (McConnell)," and "She's his wife. May explain why your job moved to China!"
Chao emigrated to the United States from Taiwan when she was 8.
Progress Kentucky has since apologized for the tweet, but Thursday McConnell's camp released an ad in which Chao addresses the attacks on her ethnicity. In the ad she also says they won't stop McConnell from working to stop Washington’s "bad ideas."
Progress Kentucky is responding to the ad, saying Kentucky doesn't need to be protected from Washington, instead "needs to be protected from Mitch McConnell."
