LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kids might just be getting into summer break, but Mayor Greg Fischer wants you to start thinking about next school year, especially if your kid is entering kindergarten.
Kindergarten Countdown is a summer-long program to get kids ready to step into the classroom for the very first time.
To get started, just visit any branch of the Louisville Free Public Library and get registered.
Each child will get a free book and an "I'm going to kindergarten" t-shirt.
Kids wearing the t-shirt will get free admission to several local attractions along with one adult.
The Kindergarten Countdown program concludes with a big fair at Louisville Slugger Field in August.
Kids and parents get free admission to the Bats game and can learn about immunizations, health screenings and skills to know before starting kindergarten.
