LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer got his hands dirty Saturday helping crews plant trees in Downtown.

Members of the Louisville Nursery Association and the Glenview Garden Club donated 28 trees of more than a dozen different species to replace one killed by the emerald ash borer.

The trees were planted along 6th Street near Metro hall.

Fischer said it's all about improving the tree canopy in Downtown Louisville.

The mayor said his goal is to plant 5,000 trees by the end of his first term and that goal will soon be met.
