Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Louisville's mayor tells WHAS11 News that he didn't know anything about claims that the city ran up $14 million in interest before settling a lawsuit with firefighters about overtime pay.

The mayor has proposed paying the $45 million settlement with firefighters in three payments over eight months.

But Metro Council Member Kelly Downard told WHAS11 News that because the city kept appealing the lawsuit, the interest alone is $14 million.

Mayor Abramson said that if a settlement wasn't reached now, the city would be paying $60 million to $90 million.

The metro council has the final vote on the mayor's proposal.

What? $14 million racking up and he didn't know it? You mean to tell me I could have been stealing money from his desk drawer and he wouldn't have known? I'm just being sarcastic. But how in the world could that kind of interest acrue and he just not know it? Was there NO one in city government, Kelly Downard and his fellow council members included, who could have, oh I don't know, maybe mentioned this to him, back when the interest was a few thousand? The whole lot of these incompetents need to get their hand out of the public trough and be run out of town! Jerry and hiscabinet, David Tandy on down, shove them all into a bus and drop them off somewhere in South Dakota! Come on, people, these idiots are ruining this city.
