LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mayor Greg Fischer is declaring Sunday as another Cardinal Red Day to support the Louisville Cardinals Women’s Basketball team who have advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
The team won by 30 points Tuesday night, beating Iowa on its home court. They now return home to host the next round of games at the KFC Yum! Center on Sunday.
“The Lady Cards gave an amazing performance at Iowa and now have a chance to bring it back home,” Fischer said. “We want everyone wearing red and we want to pack the Yum! Center and show the world that Louisville is home to the best basketball fans.”
He encouraged people to wear red, businesses to display red in their windows and doors and residents to show red at their homes and in their neighborhoods.
Fischer has also declared Friday a Cardinal Red Day in support of the men’s basketball team’s showdown with Kentucky in the NCAA Sweet 16 in Indianapolis Friday night.
“It’s exciting to have both teams again this year going deep into the tournament – and it’s especially sweet to have the women’s team playing at home and the men playing just up the road,” Fischer said.
