LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Tax season is not too far away, so on Friday, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer launched a citywide effort to provide free tax services to citizens.
The number of free tax assistance sites in the city has expanded to 27 this season in order to help eligible families claim earned income tax credit.
The credit can save a household more than $6,000 a season and about one in five tax filers don't claim it at all.
One local mother said her entire family has benefited tremendously and she said she's using some of the money she saved to help her disabled mother.
Mayor Fischer said this is just one more way to make Louisville an even more compassionate city.
You can find the locations for the tax service by visiting the Metro Government website.
