(ABCNews)-- Felix Jeronimo Gonzalez-Becerra, 42, a McDonald’s manager in Pleasanton, Calif., is being held in the San Mateo County Jail for allegedly donning a mask and robbing the restaurant he managed and a second franchise as well, according to police.
On August 28 at 3 a.m., a Hispanic male robbed the Pimlico McDonald’s in Pleasanton, according to police. He entered climbing through the drive-thru window sporting a black and gray hoodie, a white full-face mask, and gloves used for food preparation. The robber allegedly pointed a revolver at employees, demanded cash from the office safe and then forced them into a walk-in freezer. He then escaped with the cash, police said.
Then at 10:35 p.m. on September 2, San Mateo police responded to an armed robbery at a McDonald’s located in the Laurelwood Shopping Center, police said. This time a robber entered the store from the front, herded employees into the refrigerator at gunpoint, then forced an employee to open the safe, according to police. The suspect fled with the cash.
Later that same night, an officer spotted a dark-colored Chrysler PT Cruiser on Highway 92 headed towards the San Mateo Bridge, the same make of car allegedly used in both robberies, police said. The driver, identified by police as Becerra, was pulled over on Interstate 880 and inside the car they allegedly found a black and gray hooded sweatshirt, along with a black backpack and silver replica revolver allegedly used in the crime, police said. Money identified as stolen in the robbery was also recovered.
San Mateo police Sgt. Dave Norris said that the connection between the two crimes was made the morning after the arrest. The similarities between the two incidents were drawn almost immediately, including the description of the suspect, the vehicle and the weapon used during the robbery.
According to a statement by San Mateo and Pleasanton police, Becerra is currently being held at the San Mateo County Jail and criminal charges will be sought through the Alameda County District Attorney’s office.
