Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Maryhurst's Journey of Hope luncheon drew hundreds to the Galt House to help support girls who have suffered extreme abuse and neglect.

The luncheon is the agency's largest annual fundraiser for girls in crisis who have been removed from their homes.

Maryhurst is one of the few agencies in the country that cares for the most traumatized victims.

Judy Lambeth, Maryhurst president and CEO, said, "There's a great need in our community for people to stand up for children who have been unbelievably abused and neglected."

Currently, Kentucky leads the nation in child fatalities due to abuse and neglect.

Maryhurst is a privately-operated, not-for-profit agency that also handles foster care and adoptions for children in need.
